2000 Update
Jogging general (compcode: 12020) uses 537 kcals per hour (at 169 pounds / 76.6 kg) or 7 kcals/kg/hour
Its not clear but I think that this means average speed 4mph. When does a jog become a run? At 6mph according to Mike Antoniades.
Compare:
07030 0.9 inactivity quiet sleeping
07011 1.0 inactivity quiet inactivity quiet lying quietly, doing nothing, lying in bed awake
07040 1.2 inactivity quiet standing quietly (standing in a line)
07070 1.0 inactivity light reclining - reading
1.0 is the Basal Metabolic Rate. For 169 pounds (76.6kg) calories used is 1 kcal/kg/hour = 1 x 76.6 = 76.6kcals.
So net calories for jogging is 537 - 76 = 461 calories.
Definition of Terms used in the Compendium
MET (Metabolic Equivalent): The ratio of the work metabolic rate to the resting metabolic rate. One MET is defined as 1 kcal/kg/hour and is roughly equivalent to the energy cost of sitting quietly. A MET also is defined as oxygen uptake in ml/kg/min with one MET equal to the oxygen cost of sitting quietly, equivalent to 3.5 ml/kg/min.
